Everything people ask us before their first jar. If yours is not here, email contact@mkoji.com.
Makhana, also called fox nuts or phool makhana, are the popped seeds of the water lily (Euryale ferox). They are harvested from ponds in Bihar, dried, and then popped with heat into light white puffs. MKOJI roasts and seasons those puffs.
No. Every MKOJI flavour is air-roasted in small batches. We never deep-fry and we never use palm oil, which is what keeps the fat low and the crunch clean.
A 30g serving of Nagpuri Tadka is about 116 calories, with 2.3g of plant protein and 2.2g of fat — around 28% fewer calories and a fifth of the fat of the same weight of potato chips. Exact values for each flavour are on its product page and pack label.
Makhana is filling for its calorie count thanks to fibre and protein, and it has a low glycaemic index. Swapping an evening packet of chips for a handful of MKOJI is an easy calorie saving, though no single snack does the work on its own.
Yes. Makhana is a traditional Indian food eaten during fasts and pregnancy. Our jars contain only makhana, cold-pressed oil and natural spices — no preservatives or colours. Check the flavour's ingredient list if you have a specific allergy.
Nine months from packing in a sealed jar. Once opened, close the lid tightly and finish within two to three weeks for the best crunch.
