Makhana for Vrat: 5 Easy Fasting Recipes with Phool Makhana
Phool makhana is one of the most loved fasting foods in India: light, filling and naturally gluten free. Here are five quick vrat recipes you can make with Mkoji Premium Phool Makhana.
1. Ghee-roasted makhana
Heat 1 teaspoon of ghee on a low flame, add 1 cup of phool makhana and roast for 8 to 10 minutes, stirring, until crisp. Season with sendha namak and black pepper. Cool and store in an airtight jar.
2. Makhana kheer
Roast 1 cup of makhana in a little ghee, crush half of it, and simmer everything in 500 ml of milk until creamy. Add sugar and cardamom to taste and garnish with chopped nuts.
3. Makhana aloo tikki
Mash 2 boiled potatoes with half a cup of crushed roasted makhana, sendha namak, green chilli and coriander. Shape into tikkis and shallow fry in ghee until golden.
4. Makhana raita
Whisk a bowl of curd, add sendha namak and roasted jeera powder, and stir in a handful of roasted makhana just before serving so it stays crunchy.
5. Festive makhana dry fruit mix
Roast makhana with almonds and cashews in a little ghee, season lightly, and serve as a festive bowl for guests.
Always check your family's fasting rules for which ingredients are allowed. Mkoji Phool Makhana comes in 100g and 250g packs.
